Team Summer 2020

This summer the Literary Houston project is pleased to work with two Rice undergraduates and recent class participants, Sarah Swackhamer and Jacob Tate.  Sarah and Jacob will assist Professor Comer to prepare material for posting, conduct additional research, write short essays, and offer their talents as readers and thinkers.  For generous support of undergraduate research opportunities, many thanks to the Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning,

Sarah Swackhamer

Living in Houston for the past 16 years, Sarah Swackhamer (McMurtry, ’22) has seen the city grow and change as she grew up and changed too. With two parents in the art world, creative work has always been important to her life, but her exploration of Houston’s literary/arts scene has gained new dimension since coming to Rice. She is studying English and Biochemistry, and enjoys riding the Metro around the city in her spare time.

Jacob Tate

Jacob Tate (McMurtry, ‘22) is a musician, writer, and occasional wannabe theorist studying Economics and Social Policy Analysis at Rice University. Born and raised inside the loop in Houston, Jacob has participated in a variety of local literary infrastructures including, but not limited to, Writers in the Schools en Español, VIP and Meta-Four Poetry Slam, Houston Historical Association, Talento Bilingue and the Rice Thresher. With research ranging from cybersecurity checklists to empty spaces to Mexican politics, Jacob cultivates a unique worldview to share with friends under the shade at Menil Park.
